"David Cronenberg: Evolution"

He's done gory horror movies. Violent thrillers. Intimate social commentaries. If there is a through-line in the work of David Cronenberg, it's that humankind aspires to become something more than it is—and that something isn't necessarily good. In this fittingly eerie exhibition, TIFF presents original and replica props from the iconic films of the man Village Voice called "the most audacious and challenging narrative director in the English-speaking world." Among the 60+ artifacts on display are the teleportation pod and a model of the human-insect hybrid from The Fly, the warped surgical instruments from Dead Ringers, and, in the massive Naked Lunch section, a collection of typewriters, centipedes, and typewriter-centipede mash-ups. For no additional cost beyond a lingering queasy feeling, guided tours embark on Thursdays at 6 p.m., on Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., and on Sundays at 2 p.m.
